'Detours'

The Trades Hall of Glasgow

Saturday 1 Mar 2008 - Thursday 30 Jun 2011

Tickets: FREE - but please book

‘Detours’ is a series of talks introducing views from elsewhere by leading international curators and museum directors. Speakers discuss the relationship between practice and context: how institutions and professional practice develop in response to specific situations, both geographic and cultural.

All talks are free and have taken place in the unique Trades Hall of Glasgow, designed by Robert Adam in 1791-94 and now – the medieval cathedral aside – the oldest building in Glasgow still in regular use for its original purpose.

Begun in March 2008, the series will continue over three years, with ‘seasons’ of talks in March -May and October -November. Speakers to date have included Jenni Lomax, Vasif Kortun, Nicolaus Schafhausen, Juliana Engberg and Richard Flood.

The next events in the series will take place in Spring 2009. Sign up to our e-mailing list to receive dates and details.

The ‘Detours’ project is a collaboration with the Centre for Art in Social Contexts, Glasgow School of Art and is supported by the Scottish Arts Council.
